Winter Windows: How To Add Festive Cheer

Do you wait eagerly for December and then decorate your house on the first day of Advent, or do you hold out for as long as possible? Whatever your Christmas style, decorating your windows can be a wonderful way to bring some festive cheer to your house that can be appreciated from the inside and out.

Here at Direct Blinds, we recommend our beautiful and good quality blinds, many of which are designed to reduce your energy bills by keeping the heat in. Of course, with a great range of colours and designs, you don’t need anything else at the windows to ensure they look fabulous, but if you want to really make your home stand out this season, here are some wonderful winter ideas.

How To Decorate Your Windows For Christmas:

  1. Make a snow scene. Even the smallest children can enjoy cutting out snowflakes, and you can use these, or animal or star stencils if you wish, to create a wintery display in your window. Use spray snow to cover the rest of the window, and then remove the paper or stencil shapes, and you’ll have a beautiful scene to appreciate from both sides of the glass!
  2. Bring the outdoors inside. Grab some bare twigs from your garden or a local park, and arrange them in a vase full of cotton wool, or fake snow. You can use gardener’s wire to attach some bright berries, but remember it’s best to use fake ones if you have children or animals in the house. Add a couple of decorative birds, or some seasonal pinecones, and you’ll be causing window envy amongst all the neighbours!
  3. Make your own garlands. There are plenty of beautiful garlands available to buy, and these will look great strung across your windows, but it’s also cheap and easy to make your own. Collect some pinecones, and slice up some oranges and apples to dehydrate or dry out on your lowest oven setting (this will also make your house smell divine!). String your dried fruit slices onto red or green wool with some pinecones and cinnamon sticks, and you’ll create a beautiful garland to display all winter.
  4. Add some Christmas cheer. Christmas decorations aren’t only for the tree! Gather a selection of baubles and display them in your window, suspended from the top of the window individually or gathered together. This is a very simple idea, but it creates an extremely effective window decoration that is ideal even if you’re short of time!
